they are so hypercorrect that they often give a feeling of aseptic coldness. Today there are several lenses that are optically very performing, precise, very sharp. Built well, without primates of optical quality but compensating with an image rendering also in my opinion, as for many, it is very pleasant. As a focal it may or may not like it (as with all things) but in its kind it is a valuable lens. Excellent starting point, classic fixed lens (instead of the zoom of little value, which today goes for the most). Both because many spoke well of it but also because when in the 90s I began to photograph, doing a photography course, the first camera (SLR) that I bought I equipped to comedy with a 50mm (on the advice of the teacher of the course). Opinion: When I decided to join Fujifilm's APSC system 2 years ago, the 35 f1.4 (50mm equivalent) was the first lens I bought. Pros: Pleasantness of the images, compactness / lightness (it is still an f1.4!), build quality, a Fujifilm classic on the list for many years (if it did not have some merit it would not be there yet)Ĭons: AF not fast (but very usable), optically dated and not at the top (but is this really a problem?). Still, a recommended lens - if you get it second hand at a good price, maybe EUR 200 or so. It may be creative ? for maybe ? portraits but otherwise it limits the usable apertures to 2.0 and smaller. I am not sure why Fuji made this softness. Six months later: my sample is extremely soft - VERY VERY soft - at f 1.4. I think if you can get it s/h at about 200-300 EUR, then it is a good buy. I bought it at EUR 550 only because I could not get it s/h. I do not know what the noises are like on old bodies with old firmware but with my bodies they are zero problem. The 'noises' on my bodies with updated firmwares are still there but they are of no importance - they will not wake up a sleeping child nor disturb a stupid cat. To sum up - a decent lens, just ridiculously expensive. If you want good strong blur, you buy a Sigma 50 ART and a FF body. Blur is OK but not spectacular as the lens is equivalent of FF f 2.1 only. Colour is +good and distortion seems low (I say seems because Fuji bodies correct distortion on the fly. Sharpness is OK but nothing outstanding (compared to other makes). It is only a bit justified by Fuji better materials. Comparative Canon lens (50 1.8 STM) costs EUR 100 - only 20%, or less, of Fuji lens. Opinion: The lens is shamelessly expensive. The hood should be light plastic or hard rubber. It is made of metal so if you hit anything, you can damage the lens, the mount or the body. Extremely ugly hood that looks like a Messerschmitt design. Very slow, next to useless "manual" focus. ?)Ĭons: Aperture ring too easy to move and lacks a clean sharp 'A' click. APERTURE STOPS ARE LABELLED (unlike some stupid Fuji lenses like 18-55 which have aperture rings. If you’ve purchased FUJICHROME Velvia 100 Professional films please read the accompanying Safety Data Sheet carefully.Pros: Compact design. Tell us about it in the comments, because there's a lot to learn. Windows 7 users, try running the app in Windows XP compatibility mode if you have problems with the app not launching after clicking to start it up. That said, if you like the idea of One Media Database to Rule Them All, Data Crow seems like the most obvious contender.ĭata Crow is a free download, requires a Java installation to work properly. The drawbacks to Data Crow, beyond its kitchen sink interface, are that it's a Java app, so it's not tightly integrated with your OS look and feel, and isn't the snappiest app you'll find. There are lots of web hook-ins to help you grab cover art and details for your media off and other online sources, and a good number of import tools to save you time if you've already done some cataloging in another app. Once you get the hang of adding your stuff, you'll start seeing some of the cross-indexing and search powers that Data Crow provides. Thankfully, there's a beginner's wizard that pops up on first using the app-which can be re-launched from the Help menu if you lose track of it-that walks you through adding, tagging, and managing your media. It handles all three, plus contacts, software, books, and much more, and runs on any system.ĭata Crow is huge, and can be very intimidating on first boot-up-there are menus upon menus, and it's not immediately obvious how you drop your stuff into this app. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE.Windows/Mac/Linux (Java): Data Crow doesn't just catalog your movies with IMDB look-ups, organize your MP3s and CDs with discographies, or handle pictures. You can also choose to filter by all frames, key frames, or those frames which include labels. This feature enhances user experience for animation workflows such as Lip-Sync. In previous releases, you could not preview the frames without getting within the symbol in Edit mode. Additionally, we have the ability to create multiple Frame Pickers for. Frame Picker helps you to visually preview and choose the first frame for a graphic symbol. The enhanced frame picker panel includes a check box that allows automatic creation of key frames when selecting from the various frames presented here. Previously, the Frame Picker only displayed a single symbol when selected, and wasn't that easy to deal with when animating across multiple symbol instances. We now have an option to pin a symbol to Frame Picker so you can work with the tool even without keeping the symbol selected. Use the animate() function to define the length, delay, and easing of a transition, and to designate the style function for defining styles while transitions. Let's open up the frame picker panel, and we can see that we have six different styles of coffee cup to choose from. We can also see under looping options that we have this set to view a single frame. Considering that multi-frame graphic symbols are far more commonly used for looping animations than storing stills, 'Single Frame' would be a poor choice of default. The frame picker is just a convenience dialog. We can see it's a graphic symbol, and an instance of the cup graphic symbol. Looping is a property of graphic symbols, not the frame picker. returned the correct values relative to theIt’s hoped that energy retailers will be able to be more responsive to changing consumer demands and that everyone will benefit from lower wholesale electricity prices. There’s a lot of hype about its potential positive impact, but the proof will be in the pudding. What will 5MS mean for Australian energy retailers - and consumers?įive Minute Settlement (5MS) will start coming into effect from October 1, 2021. They gave members a three-year warning - which was extended slightly in light of Covid-19 market disruption in 2020. In 2017, the Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC), announced it was time to speed up the settlement period for NEM members to five minutes - not least because technological advances, including the widespread use of smart meters, have made it much easier. That pricing anomaly was due to a combination of historical arrangements, plus limitations on metering and data communications. When the NEM was formed in 1998, the dispatch process by which generators were scheduled operated on a 5-minute basis, even though the settlement process operated on a 30-minute basis. In energy retail, ‘settlement’ refers to the period of time for which usage is settled and billed. How does settlement operate in Australia now? One of the biggest changes to how most Australians keep the lights on is coming in October 2021 - and if retailers aren’t ready now, they’ve got an awful lot of catching up to do. It’s a complex business, made even more complicated by an ever-evolving energy industry and regulatory changes. The NEM, which was formed in 1998, manages a transmission network that carries about 200 terawatts of electricity from a range of sources (predominantly coal, plus small amounts of hydro, gas, winter, solar and battery generators) to large industrial energy users and local electricity distributors across the five regions. Western Australia and the Northern Territory aren’t included in this system for geographical reasons in a country with a land mass of nearly 7.7 million square kilometres, they’re simply too far away. About 10 million customers receive electricity via Australia’s National Electricity Market (NEM), which incorporates more than 40,000km of transmission lines and cables running through five states (Queensland, New South Wales, including the Australian Capital Territory, South Australia, Victoria, and Tasmania). Last week, Japan freed 39 of its 47 prefectures from a blanket state of emergency that had lasted most of April and several more could emerge this week. “We are also keeping where it will happen a secret,” he added, though the group is considering a social media blast to let people know just before it happens. “Also, Japanese fireworks started out mainly as a way of throwing off bad fortune and so these are our two goals.”Ībout 130 companies from the northernmost island of Hokkaido to the southernmost ones of Okinawa will participate, setting off fireworks at exactly the same time, Oguchi said. “Everyone’s lost their energy due to the coronavirus and these dark times, so we wanted to cheer them up,” said Hiroshi Oguchi, the third generation of his family to work at the San-en Fireworks Co in Shizuoka in central Japan. This year, with many festivals, including one of the most famous, on Tokyo’s Sumida River, canceled over the virus, fireworks makers facing tough times because of lack of work started talks that led to the “Cheer Up! Fireworks Project.” They began as a way of warding off bad luck and epidemics. Heres our list of the top spots to view fireworks on New Years Eve 5. TOKYO – On a night not too far in the future but still being kept secret, skies across Japan will light up with simultaneous fireworks displays from north to south in a plan by fireworks makers to cheer a nation weary of battling the coronavirus.įireworks have a centuries-old tradition in Japan, where massive, colorful displays are an iconic symbol of summer and draw hordes of people, many wearing bright summer kimono. Some added: “As much as I feel emotional watching this, but there is nothing we can do, except enjoy the Olympic fireworks set off under the beautiful Mount Fuji.” Please enjoy the Olympic fireworks under the beautiful Mount Fuji.” The message – copied and pasted by most people – announces very movingly that since the Olympics had to be postponed to 2021 because of the pandemic, unfortunately the fireworks for the opening ceremony could not be stored that long… and so “the Olympic fireworks are displayed at this time. Social media has been going crazy in the past 24 hours, sharing a video of what is said to be a fireworks display for the Tokyo Olympics in Japan. In contrast to NT textual critics' use of OT quotations, OT textual critics rarely avail themselves of this data, despite the fact that these quotations are valuable, and ancient, witnesses to both the LXX and pre-Masoretic Hebrew texts. It is especially dangerous to assume that the text of the Cambridge edition is the LXX, since it reflects the text of a single ms (Vaticanus in most instances) the Göttingen edition, or even Rahlfs' manual edition, are preferable to the Cambridge edition if the reading of the text (as opposed to one of the readings of the apparatus) is to be accepted. 1 One often unnoticed prerequisite of this procedure is to establish the text of the LXX in the passage in question. For this reason, readings that reflect a text different from that of the LXX are generally preferred to those that mirror the LXX ( Aland and Aland 1989:290). It has long been noted that NT writers tend to quote the OT from the LXX rather than the MT. One area of evident overlap between the two disciplines is OT citations present in the NT. A few textual critics of the past (Julius Wellhausen) and the present (Bruce Metzger) have bridged the gap in their own work, with rewarding results.ĥ. Although this division seems natural enough, it is by no means a necessity. The most obvious example, of course, is the fact that OT textual critics study the OT (which itself varies, depending on whether one includes the apocryphal/deuterocanonical books, and which ones), and NT textual critics study the NT. Above all, it is hoped that scholars on both sides of the canonical aisle will be sensitized to what those on the other side are doing, and so strengthen the exercise of their own discipline.Ĥ.ğirst of all, OT and NT textual critics deal with different data. This study aims to point out some of the differences, stress the significant similarities, and suggest some fruitful prospects for cooperation between practitioners of OT and NT textual criticism. In other words, OT textual criticism and NT textual criticism have different starting points (data), different endpoints (goal), different ways of getting from one to the other (methodology), and different ways of describing their work (terminology). OT and NT textual critics deal with different data, they strive for different goals, they approach their task with different methodologies, and they use different terminology. After all, very real differences exist between the texts of the Old and New Testaments, and they are also evident between OT and NT textual critics themselves. Didactic, religious, theological, and historical arguments can all be made to support the current state of affairs. Reasons to justify the split in the discipline are not difficult to find. In and of itself, the variety is not detrimental, but the lack of cross-pollination among textual critics is. This separation of the two from each other (and from other areas of textual criticism, such as of the classics) has resulted in profoundly varying approaches to the task of textual analysis. One casualty of the persistent tendency within biblical scholarship toward ever greater specialization is the discipline of textual criticism, which is almost universally divided into the camps of Old Testament/Hebrew Bible and New Testament. Unfortunately, as biblical scholars increasingly focus on smaller and smaller areas of study, fewer cross-discipline investigations occur, and the gap between the testaments grows.Ģ. The reading of the OT informs NT interpretation, but so does the reading of the NT inform OT interpretation. The OT and the NT themselves are collages of overlapping ideas and structures, and the relationship of OT thought to that of the NT is both varied and complex. Barr criticizes the facile differentiation of ideas into the categories of "Hebrew" and "Greek" as a caricature ( Barr 1966:35), but he also decries the simplistic identification of OT and NT terms and concepts as "highly artificial" ( ibid.:154). In his 1966 book Old and New in Interpretation, James Barr calls for a reexamination of thinking about the two testaments, focusing especially on the areas of history, revelation, and exegesis, and their influence on Christian theology. Old and New in Textual Criticism: Similarities, Differences, and Prospects for Cooperation James R. This article is also available in transliteration and text-only formats. The countdown WooCommerce timed sales creates sale urgency and your customers will be forced to make a quick buying decision. This is best suited for merchants that dont use the top part of their store for anything else like announcements, offers and other store messaging. Their checkout system doesn’t even hold the inventory once added to the cart, but they add a fake timer to nudge an urgent buy now philosophy. Well, the Sale countdown timer from WooCommerce is one potential marketing strategy to boost your online revenue. Countdown timer bar is nifty little app that shows a timer in the top part of your store. The timer can’t hit zero and then the customer is still able to buy. But if you’re going to use a timer you have to use it the right way. This simple tool has revolutionized the eCommerce industry and has proven to be beneficial for online retailers big and small. After it starts, the recurring countdown resets and counts down again by the same amount of time until the experiences end date. One strategy you might consider is adding a countdown timer. Why use Countdown Timers They increase email engagement and click through rates Create FOMO (Fear of missing out) They look Bad-A Remind customers of. Unethical if its a fake timer to a act as a nudge and generate fake sense of urgency.Īn unethical example would be a hat shop that has lots of inventory on a certain type of hat. Use the calendar and time selector to define the date and time when the timer should start. The timer helps the store release unsold inventory back to the marketplace as many people like to add to cart but don’t ultimately buy. Could be helpful during high demand period like concert announcements.Įthical as the timer allows for equity and moves the first dibs to the first to add to cart, vs first to complete purchase. The tool also gives the option to choose more options such as display time (days, hours, mins, second). In eCommerce, countdown timers are usually displayed as a clock running down, which is set to expire at a certain time. Using a time based hold system prevents frustration by allowing the first to add the seat to the cart to complete the transaction without losing the ticket to another buyer simply because they didn’t add their credit card details in time or got a payment error. Set the countdown settings: You can choose if it will end for every user after an amount of time (i.e.: 2 hours since the user saw this countdown) or to be set to a general time destination (i.e.: until 27.7.20). Ethical if there is a legitimate reason for the timer - it helps to manage expectations and prevent products from being sold out from under people.Ī good example might be a concert ticketing system. How they operate in different operating system environments, thus is important to me.
